Arsenal vs Chelsea prediction

Arsenal and Chelsea, the two local rivals, face each other at Wembley Stadium in the 2017 Community Shield. The Blues proved their worth in the Premier League last season, but they are certainly hungry for more trophies and it remains to be seen if they will give fans yet another reason for celebration on Sunday.

Good job in transfer window

Arsenal failed to impress in the 2016/2017 Premier League campaign, with the team finishing the season in fifth position in the standings. The Gunners did not book their place in the Champions League for the first time after 20 years and, no doubt, the club chiefs are eager to make amends for the unsuccessful campaign. Coach Arsene Wenger did well to reinforce the squad, with the experienced tactician bringing Ligue 1 start Alexandre Lacazette in the summer transfer window and, to make things even better for the fans, Alexis Sanchez is unlikely to leave the Emirates Stadium outfit this summer. Arsenal have big ambitions for the upcoming season and they were producing fine performances in pre-season. However, the Gunners were beaten by Sevilla in their last warm-up game and, no doubt, they are eager to get back on course. It has to be noted that Arsene Wenger’s troops are eyeing their 15th Community Shield trophy.

Alexis Sanchez (illness) is a major doubt and he will be assessed on the match day, while Francis Coquelin, Gabriel and Jack Wilshere are all likely to miss the game with injury.

No Costa, no party?

Diego Costa will leave Chelsea before the transfer window closes and that is more than obvious. Antonio Conte has told him that he can leave the club and, in Costa’s absence, summer signing Alvaro Morata is widely expected to lead the line for the Blues against Arsenal. Chelsea did remarkably well to win the Premier League trophy last term, but they were beaten by the Gunners in the FA Cup final. The Blues are eager to get their revenge on their local rivals, but Sunday’s clash against Arsene Wenger’s team will be anything but a walk in the park for the Stamford Bridge outfit. Antonio Conte’s men won their last Community Shield trophy back in 2009 and, no doubt, they will leave their hearts on the field in the Wembley Stadium clash. However, you should bear in mind that Chelsea head into the match following back-to-back defeats to the likes of Bayern Munich and Inter.

Winger Pedro is likely to play with a mask in order to protect a facial injury, whilst Sunday’s clash comes too early for key player Eden Hazard. Summer signing
Bakayoko is pushing for a start.
