Arsenal vs Liverpool prediction

Arsenal kick off their 2016/2017 Premier League campaign with a match against Liverpool. Both teams aim to make a flying start to the season, but it remains to be seen who will have a reason for celebration on Sunday afternoon.

No drastic changes

Arsenal finished the 2015/2016 Premier League campaign in second position in the standings and, as a result, the Gunners will represent England in the Champions League group stages. However, Arsenal fans are hungry for trophies and, no doubt, coach Arsene Wenger is under big pressure in the summer transfer window. Germany defender Mustafi joined the Emirates Stadium outfit, but the club chiefs have yet to sign a prolific attacker and it remains to be seen if they are going to reinforce the squad before the transfer window closes. Arsenal kick off their 2016/2017 Premier League campaign with a match against Liverpool and they are likely to adopt an attack-minded approach in their opener. Alexis Sanchez is still part of the team and “El Nino Maravilloso” will be the man to watch in the home side. Aaron Ramsey impressed at Euro 2016 finals with Wales and he could prove a handful for the opposition back line as well.

Mesut Ozil is unlikely to recover in time to face Liverpool. Jack Wilshere has been struggling with a knee injury, while the likes of Welbeck, Gabriel, Mertesacker and Jenkinson are definitely out of contention (all injury). Koscielny is likely to miss the Liverpool game as well.

Blowing hot and cold

Despite being regarded as underdogs in a friendly against Barcelona, Liverpool did remarkably well to crush the La Liga giants 4-0 at Wembley Stadium. However, against all odds, the Reds were hammered by Jurgen Klopp’s former club Mainz (0-4) in their final warm-up game and they are certainly eager to bounce back from the defeat. The likes of Wijnaldum and Mane joined the club in the summer transfer window and the duo is certainly capable of making life difficult for the opposition defenders. Liverpool failed to finish the 2015/2016 Premier League campaign in top 4 and it remains to be seen if Jurgen Klopp is capable of helping the Reds bring glory days back to Anfield. Daniel Sturridge returned from a serious injury last season, but he has been struggling with a hip injury of late and there is every chance Origi will lead the attack for the visitors. Liverpool are capable of grabbing something from Sunday’s match against Arsenal, who head into the game with a severely-weakened squad.

Daniel Sturridge is rated doubtful, while Lucas Leiva is unlikely to recover in time to face Arsenal. James Milner has 50% chance of playing, whilst defenders Sakho and Gomez are both likely to miss the match.
