Head to head record

Overall, Arsenal and Manchester City have played each other a total of 194 times, with Arsenal winning 96 times and Manchester City 53 times.

In the Premier League, teams matched up 42 times, with Arsenal winning 23 times, and Manchester City nine times. However, City have won the last three in the premiership and are unbeaten against Arsenal since December 2015.

Arsenal vs Manchester City predictions

While the Gunners will be optimistic at the start of the new season and new era, it’s hard to forget the 37-point difference between them and the Citizens at the end of last season.

Manchester City players should be relaxed after winning the title last year in a convincing fashion, but Coach Guardiola has already said that he won’t allow that, and that they need to prepare as hard, if not harder than the last time around.

Arsenal’s new coach, Unai Emery will need some time to get used to Premiership football, as Guardiola had to when he first arrived.

Trial by fire

Arsenal have a new coach, Unai Emery who came over from Sevilla. When asked how Arsenal will play football, he said that they will need to be organized first to be able to play effectively against the premiership teams.

He has played Guardiola 10 times before in La Liga without beating him, so he will want to change that in his new role. Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolašinac won’t be available through injury, and neither will Aaron Ramsey. Laurent Koscielny is still recovering from an Achilles injury.

It is sure to be trial by fire. However, he will know that Arsenal have an excellent record at home and with the support of the fans and the new signings, he will try to get his time in the Premier League off to a winning start.

Continuing where they left off

Only several days ago Manchester City defeated Chelsea 2:0 in the 2018 Community Shield match marking the beginning of the 2018/19 season. Even without some of the starters from last year, they look well prepared for the new campaign.

Coach Guardiola has made one notable signing in the break, with Riyad Mahrez coming from Leicester looking to be a feature in the City’s midfield. He will probably start.

Raheem Sterling, David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne have just returned to training which makes them likely to sit this match out. Aymeric Laporte is doubtful so apart from a couple of changes, Manchester City will probably field out the same team which beat Chelsea a few days earlier.

Some interesting facts

  • Manchester Cityhave been victorious in 31 out of the last 36 matches in the Premier League.
  • Arsenal have been strong at home, winning 24 out of the last 26 games at the Emirates Stadium.
  • Arsenal are the only team in the Premier League that has never been relegated.
  • Amazingly, Manchester City hold the record for the least goals scored at home in a season, scoring 10 in 19 games, and none in the second half of the season.

Arsenal vs Manchester City betting pick

It would be easy to pick Manchester City as favorites after they eased to two wins over Arsenal last season. And their performance against Chelsea was full of confidence.

But, Arsenal, in the post-Wenger era will be very motivated to start well in front of their home crowd who will want to believe that change is coming and will surely fill the stadium up to a brim.

With a few players just coming back from their World Cup break, Manchester City will not be at their most formidable but have enough depth to win against an Arsenal side under new management and new ideas which are yet to be implemented.

Pick: Manchester City to win

Odds: 19/20
