Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich prediction
Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich face each other at Signal-Iduna-Park in the 2017 German Super Cup. The mighty Bavarians were playing below expectations in pre-season, but Saturday’s clash against the Millionaires could be the turning point for Carlo Ancelotti’s troops.
Millionaires eyeing their sixth Super Cup trophy
Over the years Borussia Dortmund have been trying to put an end to Bayern Munich’s dominance in German football. The Millionaires won their last Bundesliga trophy back in 2012 and it remains to be seen if they will put an end to the negative trend in the 2017/2018 season. Thomas Tuchel is no longer in charge of the team, with Petr Bosz, who was doing a great job with Ajax last term, taking over the reins. Key attacker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is unlikely to leave the club this summer and all eyes will be on the Gabon international when Borussia Dortmund take on Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup on Saturday. The club chiefs did not make too many changes to the squad in the summer transfer window and it remains to be seen if the Millionaires are capable of shocking their bitter rivals in the Signal-Iduna-Park clash.
Marco Reus remains in the recovery room, whilst Saturday’s game comes too early for Julian Weigl. The likes of Matthias Ginter and Sven Bender left the club earlier this summer, whereas Mahmoud Dahoud and Maximilian Philipp could make their BVB debuts (competitive) against Bayern Munich.
Pre-season to forget
Bayern Munich did remarkably well to win their fifth consecutive Bundesliga title last season, with the team finishing the campaign 15 points clear of second-placed Leipzig and 18 above their fierce rivals Borussia Dortmund. The Bundesliga champions have big ambitions for the upcoming season, but it has to be noted that they failed to impress at the International Champions Cup last month. Bayern Munich suffered a heavy 4-0 loss to Milan at Shenzhen Universiade Sports Centre, while losing to Inter and Arsenal as well and, to make things even worse for the fans, the Bavarians were hammered by Liverpool (0-3) in the Audi Cup semi-final at their Allianz Arena. Carlo Ancelotti’s men are desperate to return to winning ways and I believe that the Italian tactician is going to field the best possible side in the German Super Cup clash against Borussia Dortmund. As always, Poland international Robert Lewandowski will lead the line for the visitors against Petr Bosz’s troops.
First-choice goalkeeper Manuel Neuer remains in the treatment room, whilst Arjen Robben and Jerome Boateng should recover in time to play some part in Saturday’s showdown. Thiago is fit, but Juan Bernat has yet to recover from an ankle injury.

Bayern Munich are determined to get back on course and there is every chance the Bundesliga champions will leave their hearts on the field in Saturday’s encounter against Borussia Dortmund. However, seeing that Signal-Iduna-Park will host the match, share of spoils appears on the cards.
