Brazil vs Argentina prediction

Argentina will be aiming to bounce back from a shocking 1-0 loss to Paraguay when they square off against their bitterest rivals Brazil in Superclasico de las Americas. The Selecao are on a four-game winning run ahead of the visit of Argentina, but Thursday’s game will be anything but a walk in the park for the hosts.

Four consecutive wins

Brazil suffered an embarrassing 7-1 loss to Germany in the 2014 FIFA World Cup semis and, to make things even worse for the fans, they failed to impress in previous two editions of Copa America. The Selecao, though, have been producing scintillating performances in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers and they are leading the standings ahead of the visit of Argentina. Coach Tite is doing a great job with the Brazilian national team and his men have been scoring goals for fun in their qualifying group. Brazil are eyeing their fifth consecutive win in the process, but they can’t afford any complacency in Thursday’s derby against Argentina. As before, a man to watch in the home team will be Neymar, who returns to the starting line-up, after missing the Venezuela game through suspension.

Willian has overcome his injury, but as reports in Brazil suggest, the Chelsea winger is likely to start from the bench. Neymar has served his ban, while Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro is definitely out of contention through injury.

Messi is back!

After playing out back-to-back draws against Venezuela and Peru, Argentina suffered an upsetting 1-0 defeat to Paraguay in their last qualifying match. It has to be noted, though, that Leo Messi missed the game through injury, but the Barcelona ace is fit to face Brazil in Superclasico de las Americas. Argentina aim to retain their spot in top four, but, no doubt, the visitors will be happy with one point from Thursday’s showdown in Belo Horizonte. Edgardo Bauza’s men have yet to suffer a loss on the road in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers and that is giving fans a reason for optimism ahead of the trip to Brazil. Kun Aguero found the net in Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough at the weekend and he is likely to prove a handful for the opposition defenders. Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain has been in a fine form of late as well and he could make life difficult for the opposition back line as well.

Leo Messi has overcome his injury and he returns to the starting XI, while Atletico Madrid midfielder Nico Gaitan misses the Brazil game as well. Paulo Dybala, Augusto Fernandez and Ezequiel Garay are also unavailable.

Interesting facts

  • Both teams scored in four of previous five meetings between Brazil and Argentina
  • Neymar has netted three goals on the road to Russia so far
  • Brazil scored 2+ goals in previous seven qualifying matches
  • Brazil won last five games vs Argentina on home soil
  • Argentina failed to keep a clean sheet in last three away games in the WC qualifiers

Brazil vs Argentina betting pick

There will be fireworks when the two fierce rivals face each other in Belo Horizonte on Thursday. Brazil and Argentina played out a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture and seeing that both Neymar and Leo Messi return to contention, I am positive that both teams will find the net in the Estadio Governador Magalhaes clash. Taking everything into account, fans should see goals galore in Thursday’s Superclasico de las Americas.

Pick: Both teams to score

Odds: 1/1
