Cleveland Cavaliers vs Los Angeles Clippers prediction

Quicken Loans Arena will host Thursday’s game between Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers. Cavs aim to make amends for a heavy loss to Milwaukee Bucks, but the reigning champions will have to prove their worth on the court.

Upsetting loss to Milwaukee

Cleveland Cavaliers impressed in the 2015/2016 NBA play-offs, with the team beating mighty Golden State Warriors in the finals. Cavs are eager to defend their trophy and they are sitting in top position in the Eastern Conference ahead of Thursday’s game against Los Angeles Clippers. It seems as if LeBron James is saving his energy for the play-offs and it has to be noted that Kevin Love has been playing a very important role in Tyronn Lue’s team this season and he has been averaging 21.8 points. Love, though, failed to impress in a 118-101 loss to Milwaukee Bucks and, no doubt, trio Love-James-Irving will have to be at its’ sharpest against Clippers if they are to return to winning ways. Cleveland have been impressive at their Quicken Loans Arena this term and it remains to be seen if they are capable of extending their winning run at home to six games.

Channing Frye is sidelined with injury, but he is likely to return on Tuesday. Coach Tyronn Lue has no other fresh injury worries ahead of the visit of Los Angeles Clippers.

Dip in form

Los Angeles Clippers made a flying start to the season, but the team’s recent form is anything but good. Following back-to-back defeats to the likes of Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers, Clippers were beaten by Brooklyn Nets (122-127) in their last league game, meaning that they are low on confidence ahead of the trip to Cleveland. Chris Paul scored 26 points in the defeat to Nets, but you should bear in mind that he took no less that 26 shots during the match. Doc Rivers’ troops are desperate to get back on course, but they will have a big fish to fry in Thursday’s clash against Cavs. It is more than obvious that Clippers struggle on the travels, but they should not be written off just yet. Blake Griffin was rested against Nets and he was sorely missed in the defeat to Kenny Atkinson’s men. Griffin should return against Cleveland and he is likely to help Clippers improve their game. The power forward has been averaging 21.1 points this season and he has 8.7 assists per game.

Blake Griffin returns to contention after he was rested against Brooklyn Nets, whereas Brice Johnson is definitely out of contention with a back injury.

Interesting facts

  • Cavs are after their fifth consecutive win over Clippers
  • Clippers recorded their last win at Quicken Loans Arena back in 2013
  • Cleveland scored over 100 points in each of their ten home games this season
  • Clippers are on a three-match losing run on the road
  • Doc Rivers’ men conceded 100+ points in six of their last seven away games

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Los Angeles Clippers betting pick

As I have already mentioned, Cleveland Cavaliers are tough to beat at home. Cavs failed to impress in the loss to Milwaukee Bucks and there is every chance the title holders will leave their hearts on the court in Thursday’s game against Los Angeles Clippers. Clippers’ away performances leave a lot to be desired and, taking everything into account, there is a big value in betting on the hosts.

Pick: Cleveland Cavaliers -6
