Liverpool vs Arsenal prediction
Sunday’s clash at Anfield pits together two old rivals Liverpool and Arsenal. The Reds aim to build on a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace, whereas Arsene Wenger’s troops are determined to get back on course following an upsetting loss to Stoke City.
Fine form
Liverpool were more than unfortunate not to beat Watford on the opening day of the season, with the Hornets scoring the equalizer in the dying seconds of the match. The Reds, though, recorded their first win of the 2017/2018 Premier League campaign at the weekend as they defeated Crystal Palace at Anfield thanks to Sadio Mane’s goal. To make things even better for the fans, Liverpool booked their place in the Champions League group stages and, no doubt, the hosts are brimming with confidence ahead of Sunday’s Premier League derby against Arsenal. Mohamed Salah proved his worth in a 4-2 win over Hoffenheim at the weekend and the summer signing is likely to prove a handful for the opposition defenders. As before, Brazilian attacker Roberto Firmino should lead the line for the hosts against Arsenal and he will be yet another man to watch in Jurgen Klopp’s team.
Full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is a major doubt and he will be assessed on the match day. Emre Can is doubtful as well, whereas Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne and Philippe Coutinho, who is unsettled, remain in the recovery room.
Alexis is back!
Despite failing to impress against Leicester City in the opening match of the season, Arsenal eventually recorded a come-from-behind win over Craig Shakespeare’s troops at their Emirates Stadium. However, the Gunners failed to grab something from the Stoke City game and, no doubt, coach Arsene Wenger feels pressure ahead of the trip to Liverpool. Seeing that Arsenal will represent England in the Europa League this season, the capital club have the highest possible ambitions for the 2017/2018 Premier League campaign, but they need to emerge triumphant in as many as possible derby matches if they are to regain the domestic trophy. Seeing that the Reds are a real force to be reckoned with at home, the Gunners will have a big fish to fry in Sunday’s showdown and I believe that they would be happy with one point from the match. Key player Alexis Sanchez has recovered in time to face Liverpool and all eyes will be on him when the two teams face each other at Anfield.
Centre-back Laurent Koscielny returns from suspension, whilst midfielder Santi Cazorla remains in the treatment room. Aforementioned attacker Alexis Sanchez is pushing for a start.
Interesting Facts
- 17 goals in total were scored in last three meetings between the two teams
- Arsenal are after their first win at Anfield since 2012
- Sadio Mane has netted two goals in matches against Arsenal
- The Gunners suffered six defeats in last nine away games in PL
- Liverpool suffered only one loss in previous ten home games in the league
Liverpool vs Arsenal betting pick
Liverpool seem to be in a better form than Arsenal at the moment and despite the fact that Arsene Wenger welcomes Alexis Sanchez back to the starting line-up, I believe that home win should be considered. Attacking trio Mane-Firmino-Salah has been in a perfect working order of late and I am tempted to put my money on the Reds this time out.
Pick: Liverpool to win
Odds: 6/5
