Liverpool vs Manchester United prediction
Liverpool and Manchester United, the two English giants, square off against each other at Anfield in what is expected to be the most entertaining game of Saturday’s program. The Red Devils aim to regain top position in the Premier League standings, but beating the Reds on the road is easier said than done.
Ups and downs
The 2017/2018 Premier League campaign has been a mixed bag for Liverpool to date. The Reds suffered a heavy 5-0 loss to Manchester City in September, but following a 1-1 draw with Burnley, they did well to beat Leicester City at King Power Stadium on Matchday 6. Jurgen Klopp’s men failed to turn their dominance in more than one goal in a draw with Newcastle United just before the international break and, no doubt, they are eager to return to winning ways in the English top flight. Sadio Mane has served his ban, but he is now struggling with injury and, no doubt, he is going to be sorely missed in Saturday’s showdown against Manchester United. Mohamed Salah helped Egypt book their place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup final at the weekend and the pacey winger will be the man to watch in the home team.
Sadio Mane, Nathaniel Clyne and Adam Lallana are all sidelined with injury, but there are no suspended players in the home team ahead of the visit of Manchester United.
Red Devils eager to regain the trophy
Manchester United failed to impress in the 2016/2017 Premier League season, with the team finishing the campaign in sixth position in the standings. However, the club chiefs obviously have faith in Jose Mourinho as it is well known that his second season at helm has always been successful. “The Special One” and his men have been producing splendid performances in all competitions this term and they are level on points with league leaders Manchester City ahead of Saturday’s clash against Liverpool. The Red Devils are likely to go for a win in the Premier League derby, but the Reds are tough to beat at home and, no doubt, the visitors would be happy with one point from the match. Romelu Lukaku has recovered in time to face Liverpool and all eyes will be on the Belgian attacker, who was rested in qualifying matches against Bosnia and Cyprus.
Michael Carrick, Paul Pogba and Marcos Rojo are all out of contention through injury, whilst Marouane Fellaini is unlikely to be risked (knee injury). Jose Mourinho is likely to stick to the 4-2-3-1 formation.
Interesting Facts
- Under 2.5 goals were scored in each of previous five meetings between the two teams
- Liverpool recorded their last win in the league over Man Utd back in March, 2013 (3-0)
- Romelu Lukaku scored his seventh goal of the season in a 4-0 win over Palace
- Red Devils scored exactly four goals in four of their last five games in all competitions
- Reds have yet to suffer a loss at home this season
Liverpool vs Manchester United betting pick
Manchester United made a flying start to the season and, no doubt, they are high on confidence ahead of the Liverpool game. Seeing that the Reds will be without key attacker Sadio Mane is Saturday’s derby, I am tempted to put my money on Jose Mourinho’s troops.
Pick: Manchester United to win
Odds: 17/10
