Manchester City vs Chelsea prediction

Etihad Stadium will host Sunday’s clash between Manchester City and Chelsea, who face each other in the Premier League derby. The Citizens are on the right track to clinch the domestic trophy and a win over Antonio Conte’s troops will see them move one step closer to meeting the goal.

Citizens after second trophy

Manchester City will be looking to build on a thrilling 3-0 win over Arsenal in the EFL Cup final when they take on Chelsea in the national championship. The Citizens are 13 points clear of second-placed Manchester United ahead of Sunday’s showdown, but they are likely to stick to their attacking style of play. Pep Guardiola’s men have already suffered elimination in the FA Cup, meaning that they will be fully focused on the Premier League and the Champions League in the remainder of the season. Kun Aguero, who has been scoring goals for fun in all competitions this term, looks unstoppable at the moment and all eyes will be on him when Man City face Chelsea at Etihad Stadium. Kevin de Bruyne, though, seems to be the team’s key player as he has eyes everywhere, looking one way and passing the other.

Benjamin Mendy remains in the recovery room, whilst Fabian Delph has yet to serve his ban. Defensive midfielder Fernandinho is unlikely to recover in time to face Chelsea.

The Antonio Conte issue

Chelsea did remarkably well to win the 2016/2017 Premier League title, but, as things stand now, they are not going to defend the domestic trophy. Coach Antonio Conte is likely to leave the club in the summer as the club chiefs obviously failed to meet his expectations and it is more than obvious that Chelsea’s main problem is the lack of teamwork. The Blues head into Sunday’s derby following a 2-1 loss to Manchester United, with the team extending their losing run on the road to three games, so it is no surprise they are seen as underdogs in the Etihad Stadium clash. Eden Hazard, though, has been in a fine form of late, meaning that the opposition defenders should have him at bay. A win over Manchester City could see the capital club climb to the Champions League berth in the Premier League standings, but beating the league leaders on the road is easier said than done.

Midfielders Tiemoue Bakayoko and Ross Barkley are both sidelined with injury, but coach Antonio Conte has no other selection worries ahead of the trip to Manchester.

Manchester City vs Chelsea betting pick

Manchester City are enjoying a season to remember, but coach Pep Guardiola must warn his men against complacency. Over the years the Citizens have turned their Etihad Stadium into a real fortress and seeing that the Blues have been having their ups and downs in the Premier League this term, I believe that there is a big value in betting on the league leaders, who are eyeing their 14th consecutive win at home in the English top flight.
