Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur prediction
Having suffered an embarrassing 4-0 loss to Everton at the weekend, Manchester City welcome Tottenham Hotspur at their Etihad Stadium in what is expected to be the most entertaining game of Saturday’s program. The Spurs have been in a thrilling form of late, but the Citizens are tough to beat at home.
Guardiola under a lot of pressure
Manchester City kicked off the new Premier League campaign in style, but the team’s recent form is anything but good. The Citizens do not seem to be on top of their game ahead of the visit of Tottenham Hotspur and they head into Saturday’s clash following a heavy 4-0 defeat to Everton. Man City experienced all sorts of problems at the back in the loss to Ronald Koeman’s team and, no doubt, coach Pep Guardiola feels pressure ahead of Matchday 22. Considering that the Citizens are ten points behind league leaders Chelsea, this has to go down as a must-win game for the hosts and I am positive that they will leave their hearts on the field. Kun Aguero has been having his ups and downs ever since he returned from suspension and it remains to be seen if he is going to prove a handful for the opposition defenders.
Summer signing Ilkay Gundogan remains in the recovery room, while Fernandinho is sidelined through suspension. Midfielder Fernanho is closing in on a return, but he rated doubtful for the Tottenham Hotspur game.
Six consecutive wins
Over the years Tottenham Hotspur have established themselves as a top-table side in the Premier League. The Spurs impressed in the 2015/2016 season, but the capital club eventually finished the campaign in third position in the standings. Mauro Pochettino’s men are eager to win their first domestic trophy since 1961. The Argentine tactician is likely to keep hold of all of his key players in the January transfer window and that should help the team keep their hopes of winning the title alive. Harry Kane scored a hat-trick in a 4-0 win over WBA at the weekend, meaning that the opposition defenders should have him at bay. On the other hand, Dele Alli is in the form of his life and all eyes will be on the duo when Tottenham Hotspur take on Manchester City at Etihad Stadium. In their last meeting in Manchester the Spurs emerged triumphant and the visitors certainly want the history to repeat itself.
Jan Vertonghen misses the match with an ankle injury, whereas Erik Lamela remains in the treatment room. Korea international Heung-Min Son could be recalled to the starting XI.
- 28 goals were netted in previous seven meetings between the two teams
- Spurs are after their fourth consecutive wins over Man City
- Citizens failed to keep a clean sheet in six of their last seven home games
- Tottenham are after their third straight clean sheet in the league
- Mauro Pochettino’s team scored exactly four goals in last two away games
Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur betting pick
Manchester City need to pick up all three points from Saturday’s showdown if they are to stay in the race for the Premier League title. The Citizens are eyeing their fourth consecutive win at home and I believe that they are going to find the net on Matchday 22. Tottenham Hotspur have been impressive in front of goal of late and, taking everything into account, both teams to score bet should be considered.
