Manchester United vs Arsenal prediction

Old Trafford will host Saturday’s derby between Manchester United and Arsenal. The Red Devils aim to build on a 3-1 win over Swansea City, but it remains to be seen if they are capable of beating the Gunners, who are on a ten-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.

Important win at Swansea

Manchester United have been playing below expectations under Jose Mourinho. The Red Devils have collected just 18 from possible 33 points to date and it is no surprise they are eight points behind league leaders Liverpool in the Premier League standings. Manchester United, though, gave fans some cheer on Matchday 11, with the team beating relegation-threatened Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium and that certainly helped them regain a much-needed confidence. Jose Mourinho cannot count on key attacker Zlatan Ibrahimovic for Saturday’s match against Arsenal and, in his absence, all eyes will be on summer signing Paul Pogba, who has found his goal-scoring touch of late. The Red Devils face a must-win situation in Saturday’s Premier League derby and I am positive that the hosts are going to adopt an attack-minded approach against Arsenal.

Wayne Rooney has recovered in time to face Arsenal, while fellow attacker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is sidelined through suspension. Eric Bailly and Antonio Valencia remain in the recovery room, while Chris Smalling is a major doubt. Bastian Schweinsteiger is unlikely to recover in time to face Arsenal.

Ten-game unbeaten run

Arsenal suffered a 4-3 loss to Liverpool in the opening match of the season, but the Gunners have been producing fine displays in the national championship ever since. Arsene Wenger’s men are undefeated in previous ten league fixtures and they are just two points behind league leaders Liverpool ahead of Saturday’s derby against Manchester United. Arsenal head into the game following a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in the local derby and it has to be noted that the capital club are eyeing their fifth consecutive win on the road. The Gunners defeated the likes of Watford, Hull City, Burnley and Sunderland in previous four away matches, but they will have a much bigger fish to fry in Saturday’s clash against Jose Mourinho’s men. Alexis Sanchez impressed in Chile’s 3-1 win over Uruguay and “el Nino Maravilloso” is likely to prove a handful for the opposition defenders in the Old Trafford showdown.

Hector Bellerin and Santi Cazorla are both unlikely to be risked against Manchester United, while Danny Welbeck and Lucas Perez are definitely out of contention through injury. Aaron Ramsey could be recalled to the starting line-up.

Interesting facts

  • Over 2.5 goals were scored in four of their last five meetings in all competitions
  • Arsenal are on a four-match winning run on the road
  • Alexis Sanchez has netted six goals in the Premier League this season
  • Manchester United are undefeated in last three home games in the PL
  • Arsenal recorded their last win at Old Trafford (league) back in 2006

Manchester United vs Arsenal betting pick

Manchester United have already dropped a lot of points in the 2016/2017 Premier League campaign, meaning that this has to go down as a must-win game for the hosts. Despite the fact that Zlatan Ibrahimovic misses the derby through suspension, I believe that Wayne Rooney, Paul Pogba and Co. will find the net in the Old Trafford clash. Given Arsenal’s attacking potential, a high-scoring affair appears on the cards.

Pick: Both teams to score
