Manchester United vs Manchester City prediction
All eyes will be on the “Theatre of Dreams” when two bitter local rivals Manchester United and Manchester City face each other in the Manchester derby. Both sides are eager to win the Premier League title and, no doubt, there will be fireworks when the two teams take on each other in Saturday’s local derby.
Good start
Manchester United kicked off the new Premier League campaign with a 3-1 win over Bournemouth and, as expected, they recorded a 2-0 win over Southampton in their first home game of the season. The Red Devils were on the verge of dropping two points in the KCOM Stadium clash against Hull City, but England rising start Rashford scored a late winner for Jose Mourinho’s troops and helped the team keep their 100% record intact. The “Special One” is doing a great job with the Old Trafford outfit, but Saturday’s match against their bitterest rivals Manchester City will be anything but a walk in the park for the hosts. Zlatan Ibrahimovic joined the club in the summer transfer window. The Swedish attacker has been producing fine performances at the start of the season and he is likely to prove a handful for the opposition defenders.
Belgium midfielder Marouane Fellaini should recover in time to face Manchester City. Henrikh Mkhitaryan picked up a knock during Armenia’s clash against Czech Republic, but he should play some part in Saturday’s Manchester derby.
100% record
Manchester City failed to impress in the 2015/2016 Premier League campaign and, as a result, the club chiefs decided to sign a contract with Catalan tactician Pep Guardiola. The former Bayern Munich and Barcelona tactician is eager to help the Citizens regain the Premier League trophy, but he is on a very difficult quest. Manchester City are leading the standings ahead of the Manchester derby, but, no doubt, Jose Mourinho’s troops are going to pose a much bigger threat for the Citizens that their previous rivals (Sunderland, Stoke and West Ham). The bad news for the fans is that key attacker Kun Aguero misses the derby through suspension and I believe that he is going to be sorely missed in Saturday’s showdown. New signing Nolito has been producing fine displays in the 2016/2017 Premier League campaign and he will be one of the men to watch in the away side.
Bacary Sagna has declared himself fit for the Manchester derby, while Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan are both sidelined through injury. Kun Aguero is sidelined through suspension and there is every chance Iheanacho will start the match.
Interesting facts
- Manchester City are on a five-game winning run in all competitions
- Under 1.5 goals were scored in three of last four meetings between the two teams
- Manchester United are eyeing their third consecutive clean sheet in EPL
- Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola face each other for the 17th time
- Red Devils are on a nine-game unbeaten run at home ground in EPL
Manchester United vs Manchester City betting pick
The two teams seem to be evenly matched at the moment, but seeing that Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola can’t count on key attacker Kun Aguero for the Manchester derby, I am tempted to put my money on the Red Devils, who have been producing scintillating performances under Jose Mourinho. Taking everything into account, the Citizens should return to the blue part of Manchester empty-handed.
Pick: Manchester United to win
Odds: 13/10
