Milan vs Inter prediction

There will be fireworks when two bitter rivals Milan and Inter take on each other at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals. The Rossoneri aim to get their revenge on the Nerazzurri for the defeat in the Serie A clash, but the hosts will have to prove their worth on the field.

Yet another season to forget

Milan were struggling to find their best form under Vincenzo Montella and they continue to slip down the Serie A standings under new coach Genaro Gatusso. The Rossoneri occupy 11th position in the table ahead of Matchday 19 and they head into the Coppa Italia game against Inter following back-to-back losses to the likes of Hellas Verona and Atalanta. Milan are still playing on three fronts and, no doubt, they are eager to win at least one trophy in the 2017/2018 season. Genaro Gatusso’s men set up a meeting with the Nerazzurri in the Derby della Madonnina by beating Verona 3-0, but eliminating Luciano Spalletti’s men in the Italian Cup quarter-finals is easier said than done. Milan have slim chances of winning Scudetto and there is every chance Genaro Gatusso is going to field the best possible side in Wednesday’s derby against Inter.

Conti and Mauri are both sidelined with injury, but there are no suspended players in the home team ahead of the Derby della Madonnina. Summer signing Andre Silva is likely to lead the line for the hosts against Inter.

Dip in form

Few weeks ago Inter were leading the chase for the Serie A title, but, all of a sudden, they suffered a dip in form. The Nerazzurri head into the Italian Cup clash against their fierce local rivals Milan following back-to-back defeats to the likes of Udinese and Sassuolo and they are certainly low on confidence at the moment. Luciano Spalletti’s men failed to impress in the last 16 against Pordenone and it has to be noted that they eliminated the Serie C side on penalties. The former Roma tactician mixed the squad against Pordenone, but he is likely to count on key players against Milan. Mauro Icardi, who has been scoring goals for fun in the first half of the season, is likely to be deployed up front as a lone forward. Anyhow, Wednesday’s game against the Rossoneri is of big importance as they will regain a much-needed confidence with a victory in the Derby della Madonnina.

The likes of D’ambrosio, Miranda and Vanheusden remain in the recovery room, but coach Luciano Spalletti has no other selection worries ahead of the Coppa Italia match.

Interesting Facts

  • Milan recorded six wins in last seven home games in Coppa Italia
  • Both teams found the net in each of their last three meetings in Serie A
  • Inter recorded their last win over Milan as “visitors” back in 2012
  • Mauro Icardi has netted 17 goals in the Serie A so far this term
  • Rossoneri failed to score in previous two league fixtures

Milan vs Inter betting pick

Both Milan and Inter are desperate to give fans some cheer and there is every chance both sides will fight tooth and nail in the Derby della Madonnina. A close encounter is on the horizon and I believe that the game will go into extra-time.
